about

This is the third Granadians long play issued by the Liquidator label. The album confirms for many the esthetical as well as musical identity, which the Granadians created several years ago. And really, there is no space for big changes, new eras or recent trends on which to jump on for these artists who’ve had their vision straight right from the beginning.

The seven songs issued on their previous album, the successful “Space is Different”, somehow left their fans with a taste for more. However, 2008 was a great year for the band, including unforgettable shows all over Europe and the Japanese edition of a Greatest Hits album.

Despite their young age as a band, the Granadians have influenced new artists from Europe, Mexico and South America, evoking in them a curiosity for so far unknown musical styles, and even inspiring the creation of bands directly playing versions of their songs. So much so that very shortly we’ll have the pleasure to find some "Tribute to the Granadians“ album in the market.

The Granadians have been surprisingly successful all over very different stages, going far beyond the 60’s revival Reggae scene of which they are considered pioneers. Singing all their songs in Spanish, they’ve headlined festivals in all over Europe. Radio 3 of RNE used their music for their "25th Anniversary of Radio 3" campaign. They furthermore played at the ‘Flor de Pasión’ parties, a radio programme which counts many Granadians fans amongst it's listeners.

Further than that, the group also have enjoyed playing live, recording or producing records for any of their Jamaican idols from the 60’s such as Dennis Alcapone, Derrick Morgan and Dave Barker.

Across the 11 songs of this album we can enjoy a multitude of different details and ideas, whilst maintaining a coherent theme and the rhythmic patterns of the original Jamaican artists that recorded between 1966 and ’73. The Granadians basically adopt those Reggae and Rocksteady rhythms which conquered the British youth and which arrived, to a lesser extend, to Spain and other Spanish speaking countries.

However, in between these rhythms we find elements of Stax’ Soul, Mersey-Beat and Bo Diddley. With instrumentals from outer space, such as "SONDA PHOENIX", the Granadians achieve bringing Los Relámpagos to the surface of the red planet, or even sound like James Brown on his angriest would have made them.

"ESLABÓN PERDIDO" is another fascinating instrumental, which sounds just like Joe Meek himself joining the likes of Link Wray and Los Pekenikes and taking them to record in a new world.

And what is there to say about the vocal songs: the sweetness of Los Angeles, Brincos or Toots and The Maytals is present in "LA CHICA MAS DULCE" and "DEJAME INTENTARLO", whereas songs like "MENTIROSA" or "EL DINERO ES PARA GASTARLO" present a unique freshness and cheekiness owned by bands such as Los Diablos, The Coasters, Los Salvajes, Prince Buster, The Equals or Judge Dread.

The Granadians are undoubtedly one of those bands that have won unconditional fans amongst a highly diverse audience. The interaction they maintain with their audience manifests itself on this album in songs like "LA FIEBRE", which is a well-deserved tribute to their fans in the whole wide world.

The most frenetic and danceable reggae is once again present on this record, with songs such as "EL HUMANOIDE" and "GRANADISSIMO!"

As always their work is characterised by a highly natural feeling and perfect harmony. The band is once again rebuilding their own history, travelling back to a time and place, recording what may have been but never was. This is a journey between galaxies, with moments of mystery, dance and heart. To achieve all this, the Granadians’ UFO landed at "Circo Perrotti" studios in Gijón: the new worldwide reference for all those trying to achieve that vintage sound today. The whole recording and mixing process has been strictly analogical, firmly in coherence with the band’s music. Not one bit has been digitalised. All songs were recorded on magnetic tape, using exclusively amplifiers, microphones and instruments from the 40s, 50s and 60s.

Creating this particular sound has been the task of producers Jorge Explosión (Doctor Explosión) and Mike Mariconda from New York (Raunch Hands, Devil Dogs, etc). Jorge Explosión has previously produced well known artists such as Sonny Burgess & The Pacers, Billy Childish or The Cynics in his studio. Mike Mariconda has an extensive career of producing records for acts like The Mummies, New Bomb Turks, etc.

"DONDE NINGUN HOMBRE HA LLEGADO JAMAS" (“Where no man has ever been”): a classic phrase from Science Fiction, well chosen for one of those albums quickly acquiring cult status. In its way, a metaphoric title for a band of today with their feet fixed on their home planet, Granada, and whose music will cause furore between Captain Kirk’s crew in their social reunions, or should we rather say parties, of Spaceship USS Enterprise, in a few years time at around 2269.
